Omar orders more power for Jammu

JAMMU, June 5: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Tuesday reviewed the power scenario in Jammu division and ordered enhanced supply in view of blazing heat. The announcement comes at a time when the parts of the region are reeling under intense heat, having direct bearing on the power consumption.
Finance Minister, Abdul Rahim Rather, Political Advisor to CM, Devender Singh Rana and Principal Secretary, Power Development Department attended the meeting.
The Chief Minister directed Power Development Department (PDD) to ensure that supply of power during summer days is adequately increased to give immediate relief to the people. He further asked the officers to take all necessary measures to avoid unscheduled power cuts besides evolving an effective mechanism to restore power supply within shortest possible time to avoid unnecessary inconvenience to the public.
Omar instructed for setting up of a control room to attend consumers grievances on round the clock basis.
In this regard, the department has been asked to implement the directions of the Chief Minister in letter and spirit.
Mr Rather has also assured additional budgetary support to PDD for purchase of more power to combat the present situation.
