2 arrested in Dastgeer Sahib donation box theft case

SRI NAGAR, Feb 13: Police in Srinagar today solved a case relating to theft of cash from the donation box of Dastgeer Sahib Shrine in Khanyar by arresting two accused and recovering the stolen money.
Police said on February 10, Police Station Khanyar received information that a theft has taken place from the donation box at Dastgeer Sahib Shrine by breaking the lock of the donation box during the intervening night of 9th and 10th February 2022.
A case under FIR no 05/2022 U/S 380, 427 of IPC was registered and the investigation was taken up.
“After consistent efforts, the first accused identified as Tahir Ahmad Mir of Harden, Kupwara was apprehended from Lolab area, who after initial examination confessed to the commission of the offence,” police said.
As per police, he also disclosed about his associate who was involved in the offence namely Jaffar Ahmad Mir of the same area of Kupwara.
“Cash amounting to Rs 8090 has been recovered so far. Moreover, during their sustained examination, the arrested accused confessed to the commission of other thefts in Srinagar city,” police said.
Subsequently, police said, 3 more suspects were arrested and stolen jewellery items worth lakhs were also recovered.
