Bail denied to Patwari, JE, AGE in corruption cases

JAMMU, Feb 14: Special Judge Anticorruption CBI Cases J&K RK Wattal has rejected the bail applications of Patwari, Junior Engineer and Assistant Garrison Engineer (AGE), who have been booked in corruption cases.
The Patwari of Halqa Jassore of R S Pura was arrested for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 35,000 for issuance of fard in respect of land owned by the father of the complainant while as JE Mahesh Chandra and Mohd Imran Ullah, Assistant Garrison Engineer, (AGE) were arrested while demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 25,000 for processing of pending bills for the work which had been allotted to the complainant under a contract.
While rejecting the bail application of Ashok Kumar Patwari, Special Judge CBI RK Wattal observed, “there are possibilities that accused will use his influence in shutting the mouth of persons who are likely to depose against him in investigation”, adding “as per the prosecution the witnesses and verifying officials are yet to be examined and the persons in the organisation of the accused acquainted with facts relating to crime are yet to be recorded , besides some more documents are required to be collected and the accused in case released on bail may use his connections and influence which may hamper the remaining investigation “.
While rejecting the bail applications of JE and AGE, Special Judge observed, “bail cannot be construed in routine manner. Corruption is a menace in the society and like a termite which hollows a society from within. It is the one of the biggest road blocks in the development and progress of society and the nation”, adding “it is true that often in a system sometimes the biggest crocodiles escape with impunity and small fries are entrapped”.
