Islamabad, Feb 18: A journalist working for Pakistan’s well known Samaa TV was allegedly shot dead by ‘armed robbers’ in Karachi’s North Nazimabad area on Friday morning, police said.
SSP Central Usman Maroof informed that the 45-year-old journalist, identified as Ather Mateen, was returning home in North Nazimabad area after dropping off his children at school when he was waylaid by a couple of armed robbers on a motorbike near Shah Medical Hospital in Block-A of the area, Dawn reported.
According to eyewitnesses the robbers apparently tried to rob Mateen and when he resisted they tried to snatch things away from him. In the ensuing scuffle Mateen was apparently shot by the robbers.
Mateen’s body was taken to Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for post-mortem and other medico-legal formalities.
Police said that the gunmen also left their motorbike at the crime spot after it reportedly developed a snag and made off on another bike which they snatched from another person, the SSP added.
Sindh Governor Imran Ismail and Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took cognizance of the incident directed the additional inspector general Karachi to arrest the killers at the earliest and sought a report from him.
