Gorakhpur (UP), Feb 19: Accusing the Samajwadi Party leaders of brazenly justifying crime against women, Union Minister and senior BJP leader Dr Jitendra Singh said today that public memory may be short but it is certainly not so short as to forget that during the Samajwadi Party regime, once when there was an incident of violation of the modesty of a woman, a senior most party leader and former Chief Minister had gone to the extent of brushing it aside saying “Ladke hain, Ladkon se galti ho jati hai” (they are boys and boys are known to make mistakes).
Addressing press conference, Dr Singh said, change is visibly obvious in the last five years. With Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the helm of affairs at the Centre and Yogi Aditya Nath heading the government in the State, in the last five years, women were not only provided adequate security but also, security with respect. He said, only the other day during an interaction with some girl students at Lucknow University, each of them testified that under the BJP government in the State, they felt secure to move out whereas prior to five years, they were apprehensive of stepping out of home all alone.
The last five years, Dr Singh said, witnessed fast-track development and restoration of law and order with security and respect for all sections of society including the weaker sections. He said, in the Samajwadi Party rule, the image of Uttar Pradesh had got blemished and people across the country referred to the Akhilesh Yadav Government by different unflattering descriptions like “Mafia Sarkar”, “Danga Sarkar”, “Gunda Sarkar”, “Tushtikaran Sarkar”, “Parivarwadi Sarkar”, etc.
While at Gorakhpur today, Dr Jitendra Singh asked the media whether it is a small achievement to have an international airport just about 50 kilometre away at Kushi Nagar. It was because of the personal intervention of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Similarly, he said, Gorakhpur was granted AIIMS by the Modi Government and Chauri-Chaura was beautified with befitting historic legacy.
Exuding confidence, Dr Singh said, Modi Government will return to power with a much higher margin than last time.
