NEW DELHI, Aug 14: The famous Kedarnath temple, which has been damaged due to flash floods in June this year, has been found in a “fair state of conservation” and the repair is possible once the accessibility is established, the Rajya Sabha was informed today.
In a written reply, Culture Minister Chandresh Kumari Katoch said a team of the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) had visited the temple structure and had found that some portions of temple on norhtern, eastern and western side were damaged in the flash floods.
These sides indicated moderate signs of damage in the form of dislodged stones on eastern and western facade, damage to entrance doorways, bulge in western facade and settlement on southern side, she said.
Ms Katoch added that no signs of physical damage to interior of the temple were visible.
The Minister said Kedarnath temple was not protected as an ASI monument but the the ASI would provide necessary technical advice and expertise to the Uttarakhand government.
The conservation and repair work of the temple was possible once accessibility to the site is estabilished, she said. (UNI)
