JAMMU, Feb 22: Pahari Tribe ST Forum, a socio cultural organization for the welfare of Pahari Tribe submitted a representation to Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi through Divisional Commissioner, Jammu regarding granting of due Scheduled Tribe status to Pahari Tribe.
A delegation in this concern comprising PT ST Forum members including Advocate Ahsan Mirza, Vikrant Sharma, Advocate Gurdev Thakur, Nadeem Rafiq Khan, Syed Jahangeer Ahmad Shah and Saleem Naz Mughal met Divisional Commissioner, Jammu Dr Raghav Langer and presented a representation in which Pahari Tribe expressed gratitude to GOI lead by most vibrant Prime Minister for providing the Constitutional provision of 4% reservation in favour of Pahari Tribe of J&K UT in the State/UT services. Members claimed that this shall give an opportunity to the educated young generation of Pahari Tribe to show their talent and contribute in the positive manner in the process of development of down trodden marginalized vulnerable ethnicity.
Delegation raised concerns of their down trodden condition and appealed Prime Minister to furnish their due long pending demand of ST status, pointed that this time centre is lead by a Government having complete majority and a PM with firm conviction who can address this genuine demand of much deprived tribe. They added that uttering welfare words from the rampart of Red Fort while addressing the Independence Day function on 15-08-2019 is a sort of pride for Pahari Tribe and this is also an acknowledgement of the pitiable and miserable conditions of the Pahari Tribe.
Interacting with the Divisional Commissioner members of the delegation expressed that from time to time different committees and expert panels declared Pahari tribe as the downtrodden ethnicity. Pertinent to mention since 1993 every Governor and Chief Minister of J&K has recommended due ST status to Pahari tribe, they further added.
