Youth sets self ablaze in Ganderbal

Srinagar, Feb 22: A youth today set himself ablaze as soon as a demolition squad reached the spot of his newly constructed complex in the Kangan area of central Kashmir’s Ganderbal district.
The squad comprising of police and officials from the Irrigation and Flood Control Department reached the spot and were about to begin the demolition when the youth set himself ablaze.
The youth has been identified as Aamir Hamid Shah (27) and was later shifted to SKIMS for immediate treatment, prompting the demolition squad to abort the task and return back
A video of the incident which was shot and circulated became viral on social media platforms with police urging people not to circulate the same.
Later, in a statement, police said that during a demolition drive undertaken by the Irrigation and Flood Control Department over the banks of Nalla Sindh, the youth appeared from behind the illegal structure and self-immolated on its roof. “The person was, however, rescued by SHO Ganderbal and locals on spot,” police said.
Police said that he received burn injuries before flames were doused off. He was shifted to hospital.
