SRINAGAR: After remaining suspended for three days due to slippery road conditions following heavy rains, pilgrimage to holy Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas resumed this morning though the weather is cloudy and more rains are forecast.
More than 3.51 lakh pilgrims, including sadhus and women, for different parts of the country have paid obeisance at the Holy cave since the commencement of the annual pilgrimage from July 28 from both Baltal and Nunwan Pahalgam base camps.
The yatra will conclude on August 21, the Rakshabandhan Day, when Pujan of the Chhari Mubarak, Silver Mace of Lord Shiva will be held at the cave shrine, before starting return journey on the same evening.
A yatra official said 78 pilgrims, including nine women left Baltal base camp early this morning for the oly shrine.
Similarly, 235 pilgrims, including sadhus and women left Nunwan Pahalgam base camp early this morning for Chandanwari, the last motorable halting station on the traditional route.
He said the pilgrims who were stranded at different halting stations for the past three days also left for the cave shrine following improvement in the weather.
The official said 96 yatris also went to the holy cave by helicopter to pay obeisance at the shrine. (AGENCIES)
