Reopening of schools

Sir,
First of all, it is a welcome initiative of the Administration to reopen the schools and resume classroom teaching after a gap of two years. It is a very encouraging step and every parent shall welcome the same. The school management has to do some homework well before the start of classroom teaching. The pandemic is not over yet and we cannot be held hostage by it for too long. The approved COVID appropriate behaviour is still here to stay with us. The standard operating procedures should be put in place in classes and during transportation. The annual examination shall commence within the next fortnight any laxity on SOPs may jeopardize the health of students thereby exponential rise of infection. The parents have some apprehensions regarding the management of the schools. We know that schools other than run by the government have their wallets depleted during these long two years for want of maintenance and other allied expenditures. We apprehend that school management may exploit the situation by demanding tuition and other allied fee at the fag end of the session. The UT administration should come with categorical terms to school managements on this behalf as income Tax deductions and other liabilities are to be cleared at closure of the financial year besides financial crunch faced during pandemic. The prevalent method for depositing the monthly fee is to be continued. Since the closure of face to face teaching in schools children remained confined to their homes and were attending online classes where they were not required to put on school uniforms. During these two years they have grown up and now fell short to them. It is again expected from the school management to exempt students from mandatory school uniforms as the new session shall start from April and students love to have new uniforms in their new classes. As stakeholders of the education system we expect some leverage from the administration and management of schools not to be harsh. We hope that things shall settle down by the time a new session commences.
