AMRITSAR, Feb 24: In a major achievement, Dr Sumit Mahajan did simultaneously hip and knee replacement in a 70-year-old patient at Apollo Hospital, Amritsar.
The patient, Bimla Devi, landed in the emergency with fracture neck of femur of the left lower limb. She was unable to walk and had severe pain in the left hip. The Patient also had severe deformity in the left knee which crippled her and was the reason to fall.
Dr Sumit Mahajan (MS, DNB, MCh Orthopaedics), Chief Consultant & Head at Apollo Hospital, Amritsar examined the patient and planned a simultaneous hip and knee replacement on the patient. He counselled the patient and her relatives, who showed full faith on the surgeon.
He explained the patient and their attendants that with the latest NOVO technique in joint replacement, the duration of surgery is short and blood loss is very less. Further, the addition of state of the art artificial intelligence in Dr Sumit’s patent NOVO technique has made these procedures very safe and accurate.
The patient walked on the first day after surgery with the help of walker and was happily discharged in 3 days. She could do her routine activity at the time of discharge.
Dr Sumit has also started replacement and sports injury surgeries in Jammu under Ayushman Bharat scheme, at Pulse Hospital on 1st and 3rd Saturday of every month. He added that same technique used in Amritsar is now being used in Jammu.
