Alto plunges into gorge, 5 dead

RAMBAN, Aug 16: Five persons were killed, when the Alto car, they were traveling in skidded off the road and plunged into a deep gorge near Marooq area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
The ill-fated vehicle was on its way to Sangaldhan from Shopian, when the driver of the vehicle lost control over the steering and the vehicle plunged into deep gorge near Maroog area on August 13.
On getting information today, police and locals rushed to the spot and started rescue operation. After hectic efforts, police recovered the bodies of all the five occupants, who were traveling in the car.
All the bodies were shifted to district hospital, where after autopsy the bodies will be handed over to family members for last rites.
The deceased have been identified as Gulam Mohi-ud-Din Malik, his wife Gulshana Begum, Sadiq Begum, wife of Abdul Gafar Malik, Waheeda Begum, wife of Mohammad Younis Dar and Shiba Suhail, daughter of Suhail Ahmed, all resident of Shopian.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Ramban Police Station and investigation started.
