Submarine tragedy: Ramnagar Sailor’s family awaits official word

UDHAMPUR, Aug 16: With extrication of four badly charred bodies today from wreckage of submarine Sindhurakshak, the hopes of Kewal Singh’s family receded even as there was no official word on his fate.
L/Ft Kewal Singh son of Sagar Singh of village Kheen Bheen in tehsil Ramnagar, district Udhampur, was among the 18 sailors onboard Indian submarine Sindhurakshak, which exploded on August 14 in Naval dockyard Mumbai. All the personnel onboard are believed to have got killed in the explosion.
Kewal Singh is survived by his six-month old daughter, wife, parent and grand parents.
According to father of Kewal Singh, they came to know about the tragic incident through news channels. “Shocked over hearing the news, we tried to contact our son on his mobile, which was switched off,” he added.
Still waiting for an official word over the fate of their son, the shocked family of Kewal Singh has not taken food for the last three days. They are finding it hard to believe that their son is no more in this world.
