JAMMU, Aug 16: A special package from the Centre in addition to the compensation by Government should be sanctioned for the relief and rehabilitation of the sufferers of Kishtwar tragedy.

This was stated by YV Sharma, president, Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), after felicitating Anil Goswami, Union Home Secretary. The dignitaries present in the function also included Lieutenant General DS Hooda, IGP Rajesh Kumar, Director Industries and Commerce GA Qureshi, citizens and members of CCI.
Sharma added that CCI Jammu has worked over time with the authorities of State Government to ensure full compensation for the sufferers of Kishtwar incident in a time bound framework and conditions should be ensured where the minorities feel safe and secure and are not compelled to migrate. In this exercise, full and willing cooperation of the Central authorities will be needed, he added.
In view of the tensions between India and Pakistan, a clear cut policy of LoC trade should be framed because frequent disruptions in the process cause a great loss to the businessmen of the State, he added.
He said that adequate safety of the people in the vulnerable areas of the State should be ensured and for this purpose the institution of VDCs should not only be strengthened, but they should be supplied ultramodern weapons to deal effectively with militants and anti social elements.
Sharma added that Army and Para-Military forces stationed in the State should be given more powers to deal with such situations with alacrity in emergency cases.
In the present case of Kishtwar tragedy, the Centre must also provide interest free loans to the sufferers to re-establish themselves without difficulty.
Anil Goswami while speaking on the occasion assured the gathering that he will seriously look into the demands presented by CCI.
Among others present were Sham Lal Langer, senior vice president, Arun Gupta, secretary general, Deepak Aggarwal, secretary and Bharat Bhushan Gupta, treasurer.
