NPP expresses concern over destruction due to rains

Jammu, Aug 17: Harshdev Singh, NPP chairman, MLA has expressed grave concern over the incessant rains which have wrought havoc in the State and claimed several lives besides causing colossal damage to property, houses, water and power infrastructure besides  standing crops.
The MLA claimed that hundreds of houses had collapsed resulting in injuries to dozens of people besides loss of several precious lives in Dudu Basantgarh, Ramnagar, Ghordi and Majalta tehsils, and regretted that collapse of residential houses had rendered several families houseless but requisite steps had not been taken by the Government to provide shelter to the affected families.
He said necessitated Government action and rehabilitation measures should be done on war footing, adding that the said areas had been badly damaged affecting movement of vehicular traffic and making it impossible for the injured persons to be shifted to nearby hospitals in Udhampur and Jammu.
He called upon the State Government to immediately press into service the Helicopter facility so that the severely injured could be evacuated and timely medical aid provided to them.
He asked the concerned Deputy Commissioners and tehsil administration to throw open the Panchayat Ghars, Community Halls, Dak Bunglows, Forest and other guest houses in the concerned villages so as to provide shelter to the affected families.
Harshdev Singh further urged upon the Public Works Deptt (R&B) to press into service the road clearance machinery so that the road blockades could be removed and movement of officials could be facilitated for providing the much needed relief.
He further called for proper assessment of losses to the residential houses, standing crops and the agricultural lands of the affected people and announcement of a time bound schedule of compensation in view of gravity of the issue.
