Kotwal reviews implementation of NRDWP

DODA, Aug 17: Commissioner Secretary to Government PHE, Irrigation and Flood Control Department, Dr Pawan Kotwal, today visited the district and reviewed the implementation of National Rural Drinking Water Programme (NRDWP) and constitution of Drinking Water and Sanitation Mission.
While speaking on the occasion, Dr Kotwal laid stress on providing safe and adequate quantity of drinking water to the people. He asked the officers to ensure that the drinking water being provided to the people must be safe and fit for drinking. He asked them to take samples from the distribution source and ensure that each source gets checked biologically and chemically. He also said that field water test kits must be utilized to make preliminary checking of the sources.
Dr Kotwal also said that Village Water and Sanitation Committees need to be trained to carry out the testing of water through field water test kits in rural areas. He said that as District Doda is a drought prone area so there is need to create check dams and tap rain water besides preserve natural sources such as springs. He directed the officers to propose big and ambitious projects for providing safe and secure drinking water to the people.
He said entire village water security plan should be consolidated and analyzed at the District level by the DWSM. It should also prepare a District Water Security Plan under the guidance of DWSM for implementation.
Earlier, District Development Commissioner Doda, Mubarak Singh gave a brief resume of the achievements of the PHE Department in the district.
