Declare heavy rains as natural calamity: Jugal

JAMMU, Aug 17: BJP State President & MLA Nagrota Assembly Constituency, Jugal Kishore Sharma, who visited the rain affected villages of Dansal block, interacted with the people in a number of villages, took stock of their problems arising out of the rains and sought their suggestions for early restoration of essential services.
Jugal Kishore Sharma, while expressing grave concern over the plight of the people, said that the rains have badly damaged houses, school buildings, and health institutions. There is no electricity as the poles in many areas have been uprooted, road connectivity has been badly affected and people face acute scarcity of drinking water, he added.
He said the helpless people are forced to spend nights in open when the rain is pouring regularly.
Mr Sharma said that the Government should declare the recent rains and floods as natural calamity and gear up all the concerned departments to be operational and reach the affected areas for the help of the people. He said that the State Government should immediately depute teams of Revenue Department to visit the affected areas for assessment of the losses caused to the movable and immovable properties besides loss to the standing crops, prepare their claims and forward the same to the higher officials for provision of adequate compensation.
He said that the Government should provide tents to the people and direct the PHE, PDD and other departments to undertake the repair works so that the people are not made to suffer any more and are connected to other parts of the State.
