House gutted, property worth lakhs destroyed

DUDU, Mar 7: Property worth lakhs was destroyed in a major fire which broke out in a house at remote Panchound village in Dudu Sub Division of Udhampur district.
Official sources said that the house of one Omkar Chand, son of Isher Dass, resident of Patlani ( Panchound), took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday. The Kucha house of the poor family was in flames in no time and was converted into ashes after some time. The family ran to safety but their entire house hold goods including Rs 2.50 lakh cash and gold ornaments were reduced to ashes.
The surrounding villagers tried their best but could only save the cattle. The cause of fire could not be known but it was suspected that short circuit could be the reason behind it. Tehsildar, Latti Paramdeep Singh along with some Revenue officials rushed to the village on the directions of DC, Indu Kanwal Chib and provided some immediate relief including kitchen set, blankets, tarpaulin, food items etc to the affected family. The police has taken cognizance.
