COVID completes 2 years in Jammu

JAMMU/SRINAGAR/LEH, Mar 9: COVID-19 today completed two years in Jammu division as it was on March 9, 2020 that first two cases of the virus were detected by the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu. Today, 12 persons each tested positive in Jammu and Kashmir divisions and nine in Ladakh.
GMC Jammu Principal Dr Shashi Sharma Sudhan told the Excelsior that it was on March 9, 2020 that first two COVID positive cases were detected by the Microbiology Department of the GMC which is headed by her.
These two years were very hectic for the GMC Jammu as well as Microbiology Department with a total of 1,66,135 persons testing positive for COVID-19 in Jammu division. Of them, 1,63,665 have recovered from the virus while there were 2326 casualties. At present, there are 144 active positive cases in the Jammu region.
Meanwhile, among 12 positive cases reported today, five were detected in Jammu district, two in Kathua and one each in Rajouri, Doda, Samba, Poonch and Reasi while rest of the districts didn’t report any cases.
All nine fresh COVID positive cases in the UT of Ladakh were reported from Leh district.
Ladakh now has 98 active positive cases including 96 in Leh and two in Kargil.
Meanwhile, Kashmir today reported 12 fresh cases of COVID-19.
Those who tested positive include 10 from Srinagar and 2 from Baramulla.
With the fresh cases, the total number of cases in Kashmir division has reached 287,212 including 284,621 recoveries and 2,423 deaths.
The number of active cases in Jammu and Kashmir are 312 including 168 from Kashmir division.
With 32 more recoveries, the tally of total recoveries in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 448,347 which is 98.88 percent of the total cases.
