PDP demands relief for rain, flood victims

RAJOURI, Aug 18: Senior PDP leader Shahzad Khan has flayed the State Government for step-motherly treatment being meted out to the people twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri and demanded compensation to the rain and flood affected people.
Shahzah Khan said this while talking to media persons after conducting an extensive tour of Thannamandi, Behrote, Fatehpur, Rajouri Bela, Aitti, Muradpur and Chingus areas. He said despite rain and floods, having wrought havoc, the Government has done nothing except making false promises and assurances, while the people of both Rajouri and Poonch continue to be neglected on all fronts.
Shahzad Khan said further that no representative of the Government or elected member has paid a visit to the affected areas despite large scale destruction and loss of precious lives during the recent natural calamity.
A large number of houses have collapsed, a large chunk of agriculture land having been eroded due to floods and crops damaged besides several livestock perished during the past over one week, he said, adding the Government has not taken any measures worth mentioning in the area.
Talking about Bela Colony in Rajouri town, Khan said the people have been evacuated and the people forced to leave behind all their belongings, but the Government has not come out to provide them any relief. He asked for construction of a bund along the banks of river at Bela Colony and a canal from Thannamandi to Chingus to channelize the water.
Urging the Governor for his immediate intervention in the matter, Shahzad Khan has requested him to direct the Ministers and MLAs concerned for providing  relief by way of free ration, medicine, clothing and shelter to the victims.
Others who were present  on the occasion included Pervaiz Wani, Capt Ishaq, Qassim Shah, Maqsood Khan etc.
