JAMMU, Mar 11: Cluster University of Jammu lifted 20th VeerannaAivalli Memorial Debate Competition Trophy. Indian Institute of Public Administration, J&K Regional Branch and J&K Police in collaboration with Department of Students Welfare, University of Jammu, organized the annual event, here today.
A total of 29 teams from various affiliated colleges, JU teaching departments, other universities and Institutions of the region participated in the debate competition on the topic “In the opinion of the house, it is the culture of sports and not just Government Policy that can improve Indian medal tally at Olympics 2024”.
The team from Cluster University (PG) comprising of Alvin Singh and Prerna Sharma lifted the VeerannaAivalli Running team trophy. The individual first prize was won by Alvin Singh from Cluster University (PG) while Prerna Sharma of Cluster University (PG) bagged the second prize followed by Ishika Sharma from Department of Commerce, JU as the winner of third prize. The consolation prizes were won by Shivani Sharma, GCW Parade; Priyatosh Dev, Department of English, JU and Ojasvi Dubey, Cluster University (Colleges).
DGP Dilbag Singh, who was chief guest on the occasion, while remembering the services of Aivalli to the Police Department, congratulated IIPA JK Regional Branch for consistently organizing the debate competition in his memory. He said that India can emerge as a sporting nation by building a strong sports culture in the educational institution. He was of the view that recent initiatives at Government policy level will provide tremendous opportunities to the youth to make a mark at an international level.
JU Vice-Chancellor Prof Manoj Dhar, who was the guest of honour, opined that through the effective implementation of National Education Policy 2020 in UT of J&K, sports can be made an integral part of the curriculum which will help all the students in their overall personality development.
B R Sharma, Chairman JKPSC and Chairman of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, said that the glorious tradition of culture of sports in India needs revival through effective policy and individual level interventions.
Dr Ashok Bhan, Patron of IIPA, J&K Regional Branch, said that good sports persons emerge as good and responsible citizens. He said that culture of sports should be made an integral part of the society
Prof Alka Sharma, Hony Secretary, IIPA JKRB presented the formal welcome address while K B Jandial, Director (Seminars), presented the formal vote of thanks.
