Narcotics smuggling bids foiled, 94 kg Poppy straw recovered

RAMBAN, Mar 15: Police today foiled two narcotics smuggling bid at Banihal and recovered 94 kg of Poppy straw.
“During routine naka checking of vehicles at T-Chowk Naka Banihal, the team of Police Station Banihal intercepted one truck bearing registration number JK19-2187 for checking, which was plying from Kashmir towards Punjab and was driven by Irshad Itoo son of Ghulam Mohd Itoo of Shiganpora (Kulgam),” a police official said.
He said during search of the vehicle, 90 kg of dry Poppy straw like substance was recovered, following which the vehicle was seized and its driver arrested on the spot. In this connection, a case FIR Number 44/2022 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Banihal and further investigation started.
In a similar incident, 4 kg of Poppy straw was recovered from the cabin of a truck bearing registration number JK02AH-0717 at Navyuga Tunnel Banihal. The truck was plying from Kashmir towards Jammu and was driven by Angrez Kumar son of Dharam Chand of Dirthi, Katra (Reasi) along with his helper namely Kaka Ram son of Moti Rama of Jhajjar Kotli (Jammu).
The vehicle was seized and both driver as well as his helper was arrested. In this connection, a case FIR Number 41/2022 U/S 8/15 NDPS Act was registered in Police Station Banihal and investigation set into motion.
The overall recoveries and arrests were made by police parties headed by PSI Gourav Sumbria and PSI Harish Kumar IC PP Jawahar Tunnel under supervision of Inspector Naeem Ul Haq, SHO Banihal and Nissar Ahmad Khoja, SDPO Banihal and under overall supervision of Mohita Sharma, SP Ramban.
