The families assembled outside their residences and raised slogans in support of their demands. They demanded that the government should rehabilitate them before evicting them from Saria. “We are the fourth generation to live in the Saria and our children are enrolled in various educational institutions in the area,” a protestor said.
They said that the displacement will have a significant impact on their children’s education, as their education is mostly provided by private institutions on a scholarship due to their poor financial situation. “We have been living here for a long time and have no idea how to restart our lives,” protestors said.
They said that these people moved here after 1947, that their ancestors had lived here, and that they had no idea where they would go if the building was demolished.
The administration has stated that the building is hazardous. “The lease on the building has expired 12 years ago, and that they will immediately take possession of the structure,” it said.
