Govt deliberately subverting peace: Mehbooba

JAMMU, Aug 21: Terming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s slogan of “peace for prosperity” as another hypocritical stance, People’s Democratic Party (PDP) today said that Government has emerged as biggest threat to the peace in the State.
In a statement issued, PDP president Mehbooba Mufti said that the disturbing reports from Shopian and adjoining areas testify the fact that the Government was deliberately subverting the peace and disturbing lives of the citizens.
She said that a virtual reign of terror has been let loose in Shopian and it seems that deliberate attempts are being made by the Government to alienate youth under a sinister design to keep them away from the genuine political and development process.
People were trying to come out of the shocks after incidents like Gool and Bandipora but the Government was deliberately creating disturbed situation, she added.
Mufti said that at a time when fruit export was showing to be picking up in Shopian district, the Government has created the conditions in which local fruit mandi, which has emerged as hub of commercial activities, is unable to function to its full potential.
Government is deliberately pushing the people, especially youth, to wall under a sinister design, she said, adding that wrong handling of the situation could snowball into a more serious situation and Government would be squarely be responsible for that.
Local MLA Abdul Razak said that hundreds of innocent youth have been rounded in the district. He added that shops in Shopian area were today forcibly opened by breaking the shutters to enforce a fake normalcy on a day when Chief Minister was visiting the area.
