JAMMU, Mar 20: Expressing concern over non functioning of mobile schools meant for Gujjar and Bakerwal students ,Shamsheer Hakla Poonchi prominent Gujjar leader and intellectual today sought the immediate intervention of Lt Governor, Manoj Sinha in the matter and urged him to take punitive action against the officers who are responsible for the closure of these schools.
In an appeal to LG he while drawing his attention towards the children of nomadic Gujjars and Bakerwals who move to higher reaches in search of pastures for their cattle and sheep during Summer season and return to plains in Winter said that the Government for their facilities had opened the mobile schools which moved to higher reaches with nomads during Summer. But it is unfortunate that this practice has been stopped for past many years as many of these schools do not move with Nomads to higher reaches and many of them seem to have been closed due to callousness of the authorities.
Hakla said with this indifferent attitude of the Government the education of the students of Gujjars and Bakerwals has been totally affected and authorities were looking as silent spectators. He demanded that the strict instructions be given to the authorities to restore the mobile schools and ensure their movement to the higher reaches with Nomads so that the education of Gujjar and Bakerwal students is not hit and they may come out of decades long backwardness.
