JAMMU, Mar 24: A delegation of farmers of R S Pura border belt led by district president of the party , R S Pumy called on SDM R S Pura Ram Lal Sharma and highlighted the problems faced by border farmers before him.
The delegation submitted a memorandum to SDM which has been addressed to Lt Governor J&K highlighting the problems of the border farmers and people faced by them after the cordoning of the border area due to fencing.
R S Pumy informed the SDM that the agriculture land of Custodian Department which has been allotted for cultivation to the farmers has been taken over by the Army and BSF. Those poor families have become idle having no source of income as this land was the sole source of earning for them and they were feeding their families by cultivating the same.
He said that these poor farmers are at the verge of starvation and the issue be sorted out so that these hapless farmers can also cultivate their land and make their both ends meet.
Pumy said it is unfortunate that the Government has neither provided them any employment to earn their living nor compensation for the land taken by Army and BSF so that they can feed their families and make their both ends meet.
The memorandum, appealed the LG to release compensation in favour of the hapless farmers which has been already sanctioned by Union Government for them but some officers at the helm of affairs are creating hurdles in releasing the same.
The SDM later forwarded the memorandum to DC Jammu for favour of necessary action.
