Srinagar, Mar 24: The administration today sealed the Shalimar Gas Agency in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town, following the discovery of flaws in the implementation of the Pradhan Mantri Ujwala Yojana.
Following reports of fraud and irregularities in the Prime Minister’s Ujwala Yojna plan, which offers free gas connection and rationing to below-poverty-line (BPL) families, district officials searched the Shalimar gas agency in Baramulla town today.
After the preliminary inquiry found that the gas agency was involved in fraud and inconsistencies, it was promptly sealed.
An official said that they got a complaint from Aneema Begun, who had the LPG ID 21170896000000764, that she was receiving the subsidy in her account but had not received the gas cylinder, “on questioning found the accusations to be true and promptly locked the business,” he said.
Another customer, Sara, said that she applied for the connection but has yet to get the gas cylinder or connection. “I received the subsidy and feel that the shops sold my gas cylinder to someone else,” she said, adding that an inquiry should be conducted.
The beneficiaries urged that a thorough inquiry be done into the matter and that the perpetrators be prosecuted.
