Madan calls on Antony, raises border concerns

NEW DELHI, Aug 23:  Madan Lal Sharma, Member of Parliament from Jammu- Poonch Constituency, called on Union Defence Minister A K Antony and apprised him of the situation arisen due to continuous ceasefire violations both on IB & LoC in Poonch, Rajouri, Jammu and Samba.
He informed Mr Antony about the fear and panic among civil population due to firing and shelling and maintained that Pakistani Army was providing cover to the militants making efforts across the border to infiltrate.  He also feared large scale migration from borders if the immediate steps were not taken.
Mr Sharma expressed his concerns on the safety, security and sustenance of the people living in forward areas and demanded enhanced compensation to the affected families, which suffered losses due to firing and shelling.
The MP suggested Pacca bunkers for civil population and insurance cover with regard to life, crop, cattle and property. He sought the support of Union Government in developing and upgrading facilities for border people with regard to safety, health, education, electricity, water and sanitation.
Mr Sharma demanded that a high level central delegation should visit LoC and IB to boost the morale of civilians and Armed forces and also to take stock of losses suffered due to cease fire violations and flash floods / rains.
The Union Defence Minister spared enough time showing his concern over the problems of the border people raised by the MP in wake of the increasing tension on the borders. He assured that GOI was committed to the safety and security of the people of the border areas and all possible help would be extended for the same.
