‘Chaka Jam’ in Valley on Mar 30

SRINAGAR, Mar 28: Kashmir Transporters Welfare Association (KTWA)-an amalgam of various transporters associations-today called for a complete ‘Chaka Jam’ strike on March 30 to press for the fulfilment of their volley of demands.
The demands include rolling back the order issued on February 7 under which the age limit has been prescribed for commercial vehicles. The KTWA demands 25 years of age for the commercial vehicles to be retained.
As per the order issued, all the commercial vehicles are being phased out after 20 years in Jammu and Srinagar. The KTWA also demands revocation of the move of installation of vehicle tracking devices in passenger vehicles.
The KTWA said that the order regarding the collection of passenger tax which has been linked to the renewal of the route permit of the vehicles shall also be recalled. The association said that the directions should be issued to SRTC to run its buses as per time table.
