JAMMU, Mar 31: In the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) highlighting the havoc created by the flash floods in Nikki Tawi, Division Bench of High Court comprising Chief Justice Pankaj Mithal and Justice Moksha Khajurai Kazmi has directed the Chief Executive Officer of Jammu Smart City Limited to file a status report as to the work done so far in regard to the river front within one month.
After hearing Advocate Sheikh Shakeel Ahmed and Advocate Supriya Chouhan for the PIL whereas AAG Amit Gupta for the UT, the DB observed, “pursuant to the earlier orders, two reports have been filed by Economic Reconstruction Agency (ERA) and Jammu Development Authority (JDA)”, adding “the reporty of JDA indicates that the foreign agency has started the study of morphology of River Tawi at Jammu which could not be earlier done on account of COVID restrictions and that the final report in that regard would be submitted by September 2022”.
Advocate S S Ahmed submitted that a new project ‘Tawi River Front’ has been initiated and its first phase is due to start. The JDA has referred the entire project in this regard to ‘the Jammu Smart City Limited’ and it is for the Authority to initiate the development of the river front.
On this, DB arrayed the Jammu Smart City Limited through its Chief Executive Officer as respondent and directed to place on record a status report as to the work done so far in regard to the river front.
