J&K trade delegation’s PoK visit postponed

JAMMU, Aug 24: The visit of 44-member traders’ delegation from Jammu and Kashmir which had got clearance from Government of Pakistan to visit Muzaffrabad, Mirpur and Rawalakote in Pak occupied Kashmir (PoK) to hold interactions with their counterparts involved in the cross LoC trade, settle mutual disputes and explore the possibilities to further improve the trade and exert pressure on the Governments of India and Pakistan to infuse some new life in the dying trade has been postponed for indefinite period.
Highly placed sources told the Excelsior that in view of some recent ugly developments along the Line of Control and increasing firing incidents, the visit of the J&K trade delegation has been postponed. The authorities on that side of the LoC have been communicated about the postponement of the visit which was scheduled to commence from tomorrow.
The traders who had already been cleared by the Government of Pakistan for their four- day visit had to cross over to PoK for Muzaffrabad via Uri (Kashmir) on August 26, 2013. Members of the joint Chamber of J&K and PoK besides other representatives from the trade bodies including Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Jammu Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Muzaffrabad Chamber and some stake holders from Poonch and Jammu were supposed to be visiting for the first time. While delegations of traders from PoK have visited this side at least for three times but Indian (J&K) delegation was accorded permission for the first time by the Pakistani Government after independence.
Y V Sharma, president CCI Jammu when contacted confirmed that proposed visit of J&K trade delegation to PoK stands postponed indefinitely in view of the prevailing circumstances and a communication in this regard has been forwarded to the organizers in PoK.
