Mumbai gangrape: Jammu journos take out peaceful protest rally

JAMMU, Aug 24: Expressing solidarity with Mumbai gangrape victim, Jammu based journalists today took out a peaceful protest rally in this winter capital of the state.
Carrying banners and placards, journalists representing print and electronic media assembled outside the Press Club of Jammu and took out a peaceful protest march which covered the area of main markets in Jammu.
The journalists later held a lecture over the issue and demanded stern action against Mumbai gangrape case accused.
“The government should introduce an Act or guidelines to safeguard the interests of the journalists-the fourth pillar of the civil society,” a veteran journalist in his address said.
He appealed the Jammu and Kashmir Government to frame stringent laws to curb such incidents against the journalist fraternity especially the women and added, “besides this, the Government should also introduce policies in the welfare of journalists at the time of crisis.”
