JAMMU, Aug 24: National Conference today asked BJP and PDP to shun communal and disruptive tendencies and help people to lead a dignified life, based on love, amity and brotherhood, which is the true spirit of Jammu and Kashmir’s pluralistic ethos.
“Dividing people on communal lines is barbaric and against the norms of civilized behaviour”, said a joint statement issued by MLA Rachpal Singh, MLA Aijaz Jan, MLC Javed Rana, former Ministers Pt Govind Ram Sharma, Syed Mushtaq Bukhari and Babu Ram Paul besides vice president Rattan Lal Gupta, provincial secretary Sheikh Bashir Ahmad, former Legislators and senior leaders Th Kashmira Singh, Bushan Lal Bhat, Satpal Lakhotra, Jugal Mahajan, Dharamveer Singh Jamwal, Taranjeet Singh Tony and others.
Cautioning people against disruptive and communal forces, the National Conference leaders said that some elements have not reconciled with peace dawning in Kishtwar and, therefore, they were attempting their worst to vitiate the atmosphere by spreading canards and provoking people by whipping up communal passions. In this context, they referred to the communal politics of BJP saying they remain in search of such occasions to exploit the situation in order to derive political mileage. “Come elections and BJP remembers start raising contentious issues like Article 370, construction of Ram Mandir, uniform civil code, discrimination with Jammu etcetera”.
They, however, exuded confidence that politically sagacious people would not allow them to succeed in their nefarious and divisive game-plan.
“On the one hand, BJP whips up communal passions to the hilt and on the other they remain hand in glove with parties like PDP, in lust for power”, the NC leaders said adding that the dirty nexus between the two is not a good omen for the State, which is an abode of people belonging to different castes and faiths.
The leaders lauded the people of Jammu region in general and Kishtwar in particular for showing high degree of resilience in maintaining amity and brotherhood despite attempts by peace inimical elements to create communal wedge between various communities.
