Led by JKPCC chief, GA Mir and other top leadership, the protest dharna was held at Shaheedi Chowk in the morning to highlight of the people’s resentment in general against the draft report alleging bias and motivated report at the behest of ruling BJP.
JKPCC chief said that the report reflects the gross violation of norms and parameters for the delimitation as the Commission has indulged in dissection and devastation of the Assembly segments and Lok Sabha constituencies, ignoring the ground realities.
He said after over two years draft report was circulated with only short time for filing objections followed by a hasty visit of two days as eye wash. The JKPCC filed detailed objections to the report expecting a proper hearing but only individual leaders were invited instead of political parties especially Congress, as the Commission has no answer to the queries raised by the Congress party based on facts and law.
The draft report has violated the basic norms and disturbed the most of constituencies for political interests, ignoring the criteria of population, topography, physical features of areas, connectivity and public convenience, causing great hardships to the people. There are large variations of population of the proposed constituencies as some constituencies are having 37000 population, while others have touched two lakh population, thus widening the gap and adding to injustice to the people, he added.
The Congress wanted to properly represent the voice of the people from all districts and area but denied proper opportunity like other opposition, who were clubbed with districts. He also demanded justice to different districts, regions and areas as well as communities already highlighted in the party’s objections to the draft report.
Prominent others who joined dharna included working president Raman Bhalla, vice president Mula Ram, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma, senior leaders Yogesh Sawhney, Balwan Singh, TS Bajwa (Ex-MP), Th Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Ashok Dogra, Indu Pawar, Kuldeep Raj Verma, Hari Singh Chib, KC.
