Protest against mysterious death of youth

SRINAGAR, Aug 25: People today protested against the mysterious death of a youth and resorted to stone pelting in old city area of Srinagar.
Police said that Farooq Azam Khan, 23 son of Abdul Qayoom of Patlipora, Chattabal, a salesman by profession was missing for last three days for which the brother of deceased had lodged a missing report in Kothibagh Police Station on Friday.
Police said that on Sunday morning Police Station Parimpora fished out his body from river Jehlum near Shalteng, Srinagar and Post Mortem of the body was conducted in the hospital, in which no visible mark of torture or violence was found on the body. The body was later handed over to his legal heirs for last rites.
But the family of deceased alleged that there were visible torture marks on his body. “My brother had visible torture marks on his head,” his brother alleged.
They said that a week before police raided their house to arrest Khan under stone pelting charges.
As his body was taken to his home, hundreds of people held protests against his death and participated in his last rites. They were demanding fair investigation into the mysterious death.
Shops and other business institutes in the area were shut and traffic was off the roads. People erected barricades on the roads and were not allowing vehicles to pass from the area.
