RAJOURI, Aug 26: Shahzad Khan, senior PDP leader, has expressed his anguish over the status as well as working of Municipality in Rajouri.
Addressing a meeting of party workers in Rajouri, he alleged that Municipality in Rajouri was in pathetic condition and the Government had literally failed to even give proper attention to the basic sanitation and hygiene of the people.
“There is no arrangement for proper disposal of garbage. A large chunk of garbage is often disposed off in the river which not only pollutes it but also threatens the flora and fauna there,” he said.
For the population of Rajouri town, 2-5 Tata 407 are required to dispose off the garbage but presently there is only one such truck for the purpose. Besides, there is no machinery to lift and place the garbage into these trucks and hence is done manually which is a time consuming affair, Shahzad explained.
The PDP leader also lamented that the Municipality staff was not being paid their wages regularly. “The salary for the permanent as well as casual workers amounts to Rs 20.25 lakh per month but for the last few years funds allotted under this head have been only Rs 18.50 lakhs, which were further reduced to Rs 14 lakh thus creating a deficit of Rs 83 lakh,” he said.
Talking on the issue of solid waste management project, Mr Shahzad said that despite the project, nothing has been implemented on ground. “It is time for the Government to wake up from slumber and take a proper stock of the ground facts and situation and make the town a better place for the people to live which is their fundamental right, he said.
