JAMMU, Apr 11: Paintings by well known and internationally acclaimed artist of Jammu, Suman Gupta have been included among those of few selected artists for a major group show at Bird Executed- Gallery Nvya Art Walk at General Aviation Terminal, a new space of gallery Nvya in New Delhi.
The three month long exhibition titled ‘Whimsical Journey’ which opened recently and includes works of some great contemporary and upcoming Indian artists, shall remain open till the first week of May 2022. The show is being curated by Gallery Nvya.
Suman Gupta is an Indian magic realist with a modernist vision. His paintings are well within the tradition of Indian realism as defined by great masters like Bikash Bhattacharya, Ganesh Pyne, Raja Ravi Verma etc.
Suman chooses his subjects from his immediate surroundings in Jammu—its land and its people—and describes the beauty he finds in everyday life.
His paintings celebrate the underlying epic nature of the commonplace and common man with his own and extraordinary expression in magic realism. He pushes the boundaries of the realist tradition with his multilayered imagery.
Life, beauty, death, memory and confrontation coexist in his world. Family and friends are the cast of characters that appear in his dreamlike narrative works.
