Baisakhi Day reminds of Rajouri people sacrifices: Kuldeep

JAMMU, Apr 11: BJP senior leader and former Vice-Chairman of Pahari Board Kuldeep Raj Gupta said that Rajouri Day being observed on Baisakhi Day, reminded us of the sacrifices made by the people of this border district.
Addressing media persons, alongwith J&K BJP Spokesperson Balbir Ram Rattan, Gupta said that it was on April 13, 1948, the Baisakhi Day, when Indian forces and the local people pushed back Pakistani invaders back into their territory. One day earlier, on April 12, dozens of people were martyred by the invaders as they were on front to defeat the designs of Pakistan. He said that on April 13, Rajouri was fully freed of Pakistani intruders and the people celebrated it as Vijay Diwas.
Kuldeep Raj Gupta elaborated that Indian Army and the local civilians have been celebrating April 13 as Vijay Diwas, wherein, number of programme are organized, including light and sound show, Musical evening gathering held, all religion prayers, besides paying tributes by senior Army officials and prominent civilians to the martyrs, who laid down their lives defending their motherland and for the honour of tricolour.
Gupta further said that it was Baisakhi Day, when in 1919, General Dyer ordered firing on innocent civilians in Jalianwala Bagh in Amritsar, Guru Gobind Singh laid the foundation of Khalsa Panth in 1699. It shows the significance of the day and that historical events are associated with Baisakhi Day. Again, it is the day, when farmers start harvesting their wheat crop.
He urged upon the people to participate in the Rajouri Day celebration to be held at Rajouri on Baisakhi Day and learn about the supreme sacrifice of the great patriots of the border district of Rajouri.
