Rs 1 lakh fine imposed on man for illegally dumping waste

Srinagar, Apr 13: The Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) today imposed a fine of Rs one lakh on an individual for dumping heaps of garbage on the banks of the Doodh Ganga flood channel and Pantha Chowk-Batamaloo Byepass road.
The person has been identified as Parvez Ahmad Ganai son of Ali Mohammad Ganai resident of Boniyar Baramulla, the driver as well as the owner of a Tipper No: JK02AC-3649
SMC in this regard said that for the last few months it was observed that heavy loads of garbage were illegally dumped by some unscrupulous elements on the banks of Doodh Ganga flood channel, Panthachowk-Batmaloo Bye Pass Road, especially in the Nowgam stretch as well as interiors of the city such as Tengpora, Rawalpora, Sanat Nagar, Barzulla Bridge and Mehjoor Nagar.
Commissioner, SMC, Athar Amir Khan said that illegal dumping of huge waste was badly affecting the environment of the city the SMC was keeping an eye and working to nab such miscreants.
SMC stated that on 1/1/2022 in one of the operations, the tipper bearing No: JK02AC 3649 was caught red-handed while unloading loads of garbage at Rawalpora near Govt. School. “However, the tipper driver forcibly with the help of some unknown persons managed to flee from the spot.”
It said the tipper that the Corporation while acting on a tip-off, on 18/3/2022 again caught unloading a bulk of garbage at Barzulla near the bridge. “The tipper was seized and taken into custody by the Corporation.”
SMC said that it was found that the tipper was working with one M/S. Buhroo Trading Corporation, which is under service contract to Station HQ, Old Airfield, Rangreth and the waste collected from the Station HQ was being dumped within the territorial jurisdiction of the Corporation in a crude manner and a brazen violation of environmental laws and rules.
The Corporation said that in a representation submitted by the defaulter, he has confessed to the offence and apologized for the act, while as a fine to the tune of Rs. 1.00 lac has been imposed on the defaulter for the illegal acts, to be deposited in the Municipal Chest within 10 days.
The Solid Waste Management Officer, SMC, in this regard, has been asked to release the vehicle.
