UDHAMPUR, Apr 17: A pedestrian was knocked to death by a rashly driven passenger bus on the National Highway near Sangoor Chowk Udhampur, here today.
The deceased was identified as Mohit Kumar, son of Prem Nath, resident of Thannu Udhampur.
The accident took place when a rashly driven bus number JK08G-9277, which was on its way from Jammu to Kashmir, hit the pedestrian near Sangoor Chowk Udhampur around 6.30 a.m.
The victim reportedly died on the spot while the bus driver managed to flee from the spot after the accident. However, Jawans of CRPF 137 battalion captured the bus about 2 km from the incident site and also apprehended its driver.
Later, dead body of the deceased was shifted to DH Udhampur for the postmortem while a case has been registered in this connection
After the incident, locals protested against National Highway Authority and demanded erecting speed breaker at the spot where the accident had taken place.
