SRINAGAR, Apr 17: The road in Brien Nishat leading to several areas continues to be in shambles for the last more than 5 years while the concerned department has so far failed in carrying out the necessary repairs and macadamization, leaving the residents aghast.
The locals told Excelsior that they are facing several issues due to the dilapidated condition of the road while, they said, the authorities are turning a deaf ear to the demands of the people living in the areas connected by the road.
The road starting from Syed Rehmannia Stop in Brien Nishat leads to areas such as Manzgam, Meebagh and Ganai Muhalla. The locals said that the road stretch of more than one kilometre is in the worst condition.
“The authorities have completely failed in repairing the road which is connecting several areas, even as the concerned Corporator has been acting lazy in getting the road repaired,” Abdul Hamid, a resident said.
The residents said that the concerned Corporator told them that the road would be macadamized in April; however, they said no work has been carried out so far even though a tender was also floated for the work.
The locals said that while the authorities have macadamized the majority of roads in Srinagar, city, their area has been left out.
“The commuters are facing several problems, the travel down consumes more time; it is an issue which needs to be addressed immediately,” the residents said.
The residents have appealed to the District Administration Srinagar, as well as the concerned officials of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation to look into the matter and take necessary measures to repair the road which is in shambles.
The concerned SMC Corporator Aqib Renzu Shah said that they had floated a tender earlier, but, he said, the same had to be revalidated. “The necessary repairs as well as macadamization of the road will be carried out soon, I think it should be done by mid-June,” he said.
