ASI celebrates World Heritage Day

UDHAMPUR, Apr 18: Archaeological Survey of India, Srinagar Circle, Jammu celebrated World Heritage Day today.
This year the celebration was held at ancient places attributed to Raja Suchet Singh, Ramnagar (Udhampur) in collaboration with Kiran Nadar Museum of Art (KNMA), New Delhi., which is India’s first philanthropic private museum. The programme was presided over by KNMA chairman as chief guest.
An exhibition, workshops and other cultural awareness programmes on the eve of the World Heritage Day were organized at ancient places related to Raja Suchet Singh, highlighting recent archaeological activities in the region which include conservation, exploration and excavation. In addition to this, photographs of the monuments inscribed in the World Heritage list were also displayed.
A workshop on Paper Mache, which is an art form that contains many layers and streams within its rich history, was organized on the occasion for the students of the region. A quiz on the subject ‘Culture Heritage’ was also organized by the officers/officials of ASI. The programme concluded with ‘heritage walk’ within the premises of ancient places attributed to Raja Suchet Singh, Ramnagar.
The programme was organized under the guidance of Dr Izhar Alam Hashmi, Superintending Archaeologist I/c, Archaeological Survey of India, Srinagar Circle.
