JAMMU, Apr 19: “The Dogra Art Museum, that observed the World Heritage Day by exhibiting rare manuscripts available in its archives recently, must be frequently visited by people especially students to stay abreast with the art, culture and languages of Jammu and Kashmir. The artefacts displayed in the museum make visitors aware of the glorious past and also enable them to study history, that unfolds many important aspects of our previous rulers and their historic decisions”.
This was stated by BJP J&K Executive Member, Raman Suri, who added that the doors of Dogra Art Museum, Archives Department and restored portions of Mubarak Mandi should be thrown open to general public to the extent that footfall increases manifold. Schools, colleges and people from the civil society must visit these places of importance frequently while the Department of Tourism in collaboration with the Department of Archives, Archeology and Museums should keep the place abuzz with activities throughout the year so that enough revenue is generated for the maintenance of these places.
Jammu, he said, is having one of the finest collections of Basohli paintings, maps, manuscripts in ‘Devnagri’, ‘Sharda’, ‘Persian’ and ‘Gurmukhi’ scripts stacked and also displayed in museums and archives, however too less footfall doesn’t make it blink on the international map of museums or archives. He urged Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha to make them display all the artefacts in the restored halls of Mubarak Mandi with highly sophisticated techniques and security cover, so that people, especially the art lovers and historians can visit the place regularly.
Raman Suri said, if needed the officials from Central Museum, Delhi must be invited to Jammu and Kashmir so that their experiences and expertise can be best utilised to make priceless valuables and artefacts including paintings, sculptures and manuscripts displayed in most professional manner round the year and not only on certain occasions.
