Dialogue only way forward: Dr Kamaal

SRINAGAR, Apr 19: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference additional general secretary, Dr Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal today asserted that dialogue between India and Pakistan is the only way to foster everlasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
In a statement issued here today, Kamaal said that the animosity between the two neighbouring countries has held hostage the development of the sub-continent. “Our party has all along maintained that the dialogue between the two nations affords a way out,” he said adding, “Vajpayee’s Kashmir policy was more than a slogan unlike today.
The common people of all the regions of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh are looking for a repeat of it. His vision had become a cornerstone of reconciliation efforts in Jammu and Kashmir that had opened the windows for achieving lasting peace and prosperity in J&K.”
The post 2019 policies of the ruling dispensation doesn’t identify with Vajpayee’s prudent Kashmir vision, he said. “On the contrary, the incumbent ruling dispensation has successively pulverised democracy and electoral politics. The present regime has failed to establish the centrality of the sentiments of the people of Kashmir in its dealing with the people of Jammu and Kashmir,” he added.
Asking the incumbent government to walk Vajpayee’s path vis-a-vis Jammu and Kashmir, Kamaal said, “The major take away from the meeting of JK leaders with the PM Modi last year were his words of honour on removing ‘Dil ki doori and Dilli ki doori’. So far nothing substantial has been done to achieve that end.”
