B-787 Dreamliners earn Rs 11,862 lakh revenue in 43 days: Govt

 

NEW DELHI, Aug 29:  The Dreamliners Aircraft service in the country has earned a total revenue of Rs 11,862.27 lakh and surplus over variable cost of Rs 1808.44 lakh from May 19 to  June 30, 2013, the Lok Sabha was informed today.

Civil Aviation Minister Ajit Singh said in a written reply “the performance of the Dreamliners is satisfactory and they are commercially viable. Their average passenger load factor is 70 per cent.”

The Boeing 787 Dreamliner, most technologically advanced and fuel efficient airplane in the world, is a long-range, mid-size wide-body, twin-engine jet airliner developed by Boeing Commercial Airplanes. Its variants seat 210 to 330 passengers.

Air India is only the fifth airline in the world having 787 Dreamliner. It presently operates Dreamliners on Domestic routes of Delhi-Banglore, Delhi-Kolkata and Delhi Chennai, and on International routes of Delhi-London, Delhi-Paris and Delhi-Frankfurt and Amritsar-Birmingham.

The Minister also said “Air India currently does not have plan to expand operation of the Dreamliners on any other domestic route. However, flight operations by Boeing-787 between India and Australia are scheduled to commence from August 29, 2013.

Air India is also planning flights to Rome, Milan and Moscow by the B-787 in the near future.”

“Air India has ordered for fleet of 27 B-787 aircraft, out of which 7 have been delivered till now. The delivery schedule of the balance is seven to be delivered in 2013, five in 2014, six in 2015 and two in 2016,” Mr Singh added.

On the issue of compensation which would be paid by the Boeing to Air india in case of grounding, the Minister replied that Air India has already communicated this issue to Boeing and was awaiting response.
