SAMBA, Apr 22: Border belt farmers and displaced persons (DPs) of 1947, 1965 and 1971 have submitted a memorandum of their demands and issues they face to DC Samba for forwarding the same to PM Modi during his visit at Palli on April 24, 2022.
Mohan Singh Bhatti, representative of border farmers told reporters that the demands highlighted in the memorandum were occupancy rights under section 3-A of Agrarian Reforms Act 1976, permanent one time settlement of DPs of PoJK in the form of payment of Rs. 25 lakh to each displaced family, reservation in professional colleges outside for the children of displaced families, reservation in jobs of paramilitary forces, Army and other central government offices for the wards of DPs and inclusion of left out DP families for assistance.
The border farmers expressed resentment in delay in payments against acquired land under fencing, blind mining and rent of land under ditch in border areas by the armed forces.
They also demanded improvement in power supply in border villages, RBA status to border people, special drive for recruitment of border youth, free electricity for agriculture pump-sets and implementation of SRO 43 in respect of civil persons killed in cross border firing.
They also demanded establishment of sugar mill at Samba and SRO to include village like Chak Salarian, Karliyan, Bana Chak under LAC.
