BJP raises issue of 2G JPC vacancies again in RS

NEW DELHI : The BJP today again raised the issue of appointment of two members to the Joint Parliamentary Committee looking into the allocation of 2G spectrum and demanded a ruling from the Chair on the motion related to the appointments.
When the House met for the day and Chairman Hamid Ansari called for the Question Hour, Leader of the Opposition Arun Jaitley said the party has written to the Chairman on the issue.
He said the Chairman should give a ruling on the motion so that the issue becomes clear.
“This is not the way the vacancies in Parliamentary committees are filled,” Mr Jaitley said.
Congress member Satyavrat Chaturvedi, in reply to Mr Jaitley, said the ruling coalition was not encroaching upon rights of the Opposition.
He said both the vacancies were earlier also from the ruling coalition.
He said there would be no effect on number of the Opposition in the JPC after the new appointments.
To this AIADMK member V Maitreyan said it was factual incorrect as one of the two members, who were earlier in the committee, gave a dissent note on draft report. (AGENCIES)
