JAMMU, Apr 24: Sikh organizations today demanded that the Punjabi language be given the status of official language in Jammu and Kashmir.
The demand was raised during a meeting of various Sikh organization of J&K organized under the chairmanship of Sudarshan Singh Wazir, chairman of JK Sikh United Front.
“Out of eight seats for assembly and two seats for parliament, four seats of assembly and one of parliament be allotted to Sikhs of Jammu province and four seats of assembly and one of parliament be allotted to Sikhs of Kashmir province,” the Sikh leaders asserted.
They also demanded that the quota for recruitment be fixed to provide the job to educated unemployed of Sikh minority community. The Sikh leaders also sought representation of Sikh community in the Service Selection Board and Public Service Commission, and establishment of Commission for minorities in the UT.
The Sikh leaders also demanded that High Court judge be appointed from Sikh community as in 75 years after Independence no Sikh has been appointed as High Court judge in Jammu Kashmir.
Those who participated in the meeting were Mohinder Singh (chief organizer Bhai Kahnaya Nishkam Sewa Society J&K), Darbinder Singh (president, SAD J&K), Rajinder Singh (general secretary, SAD J&K), Raja Singh (member, DGPC Jammu), Ravinder Singh (general secretary, SAD J&K), Kulwant Singh Khajuria (joint secretary, SAD J&K), Kuldeep Kour (president, Istri Akali Dal J&K), Gurmeet Kour (general secretary, Istri Akali Dal J&K), Prof Yudhvir Singh (Corporator), Charan Singh Bali (convenor, Kashmir Province, SAD) and others.
