JAMMU, Aug 30: Sixty-fourth Vanmahotsava was today celebrated at Army camp Tutan-Di-Khui near Surinsar. A function to mark the occasion was organised by Eco Task Force, Jammu division pf J&K Forest Department and 129 Infantry battalion (TA) Ecological, JAK Li.
More than 100 saplings of various species were planted by the Forest Department officers, Army officers, school children, Sarpanchs and chairpersons of Village Forest Committees.
Ravi Kumar Kesar, Chief Conservator of Forests, Jammu was the chief guest while Roshan Jaggi, Conservator of Forests, East Circle was guest of honour.
Mr Jaggi stressed on the need of environmental protection and rehabilitation of degraded forests while Mr Kesar assured fill departmental logistic and financial support to Eco Task Force for achieving purpose of the project.
CO 129 battalion JAK Li Col Vinay Handa requested the CCF to hike financial assistance so that more degraded area could be rehabilitated by plantation while Anil Sharma, DFO Eco-Task Force Division said Monsoon target of plantation of 1.05.000 under State plan besides 30,000 target of BUC have been achieves.
