NEW DELHI, Apr 28: BJP State media secretary of Ladakh Mohd Hassan Pasha today met Dharmendra Pradhan (Union Minister for Education & Skill Development and Entrepreneurship) at his residence in New Delhi and brought to the notice of the Minister the grievances and issues faced by the student community of Ladakh.
Pasha informed the Union Minister that in recent recruitment process for contractual posts of Assistant Professors in Ladakh University major candidates selected were non-resident Ladakhi and therefore, requested the Minister to make requirement of the Ladakh Resident certificate compulsory in the recruitment of Assistant Professors at Ladakh University.
Stating that the Kargil students appearing for the National Eligibility Test have to travel more than 200 km to Srinagar or Leh which is at a distance of 240 km, Pasha urged the Minister to set up an Examination centre for the NET in the Kargil district of Ladakh. He also sought setting up a proper regional centre of IGNOU in the Kargil district.
Pasha also demanded to establish a College for Education in the Kargil district of Ladakh. He said the University of Ladakh still lacks a full-fledged faculty in its various departments and moreover, the affiliated colleges of the University of Ladakh lack basic facilities. He requested the Minister to allocate increased budget for the University of Ladakh and its affiliate colleges.
The BJP leader further submitted that the reservation criteria in minority educational institutions i.e. Jamia Millia Islamia and Aligarh Muslim University is vague and disproportionately affect the ST students and favour SC students since the cut-off for these categories are announced jointly by the University. So, he said, there is a need for the separation of seats reserved for ST/SS students.
Dharmendra Pradhan listened to every issue with a great and open-minded vision and said that help would be extended in every way possible manner for the welfare of Ladakh region and its people, especially the District Kargil-Ladakh. With respect to other issues stated, he indicated that the issues would be discussed with the concerned departments and will be resolved at all cost.
